I am doing an engine swap on a 1995 Pontiac sunfire, does anyone know if I need to pull the engine and tranny as a unit or can I just pull the engine out ?
thanks !!

FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE
1. Loosen fuel tank filler cap to release tank vapor pressure. Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect fuel
pump electrical connector at fuel tank. Start and run engine until engine stops.
2. Engage starter for at least 3 seconds to ensure remaining fuel pressure is released. Disconnect negative
battery cable. Reconnect fuel pump connector. Since some residual pressure may exist in fuel system,
cover fuel line fitting with a shop towel before loosening.ENGINE
Removal & Installation
1. Release fuel system pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE under REMOVAL &
INSTALLATION. Drain cooling system. Raise hood fully (disconnect lower end of gas-charged hood
support). Remove air cleaner and intake duct.
2. Disconnect control cables, coolant hoses, vacuum hoses, and electrical connectors as necessary. Remove
engine mount strut. Rotate engine forward on its mounts. Remove power steering pump (leave hoses
connected). Remove bolts securing engine to transaxle (except upper 2 bolts).
3. Rotate engine rearward. Raise and support vehicle. Remove right front wheel. Remove engine splash
shield. Disconnect exhaust pipe. Remove flywheel cover and starter motor. Remove nuts securing engine
mount to frame. Remove bolts securing torque converter to flexplate. Remove A/C compressor (leave
hoses connected).
4. Disconnect front exhaust pipe support bracket at transaxle. Remove bolt that secures transaxle support
bracket to transaxle. Lower vehicle. Rotate engine forward. Remove one of 2 remaining bolts securing
engine to transaxle.
5. Rotate engine rearward. Remove remaining bolt. Attach lifting device. Remove engine. To install, reverse
removal procedure. Tighten nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Fill
cooling system.
NOTE: Remove engine through top of engine compartment.
